Update 2

Dear Member

Following on from the Prime Minister’s briefing yesterday and the comments from his senior scientific and medical advisers we have decided upon a course of action to keep us all as safe as we can whilst following the golf industry and national guidelines.

A reduced Board Of Directors will be meeting electronically on a daily basis late afternoon, to keep the membership up to date with the fast-moving situation we are encountering.

The main advice at this moment is to keep away from the clubhouse as far as possible to avoid close contact with other people – it may be necessary in the very near future to close the clubhouse completely.

There is no plan at this stage to close the golf course but we will have to assess the immediate future of our competitions – we have been receiving valuable advice from BIGGA, the greenkeepers’ association, Golf Club Managers Association, the PGA supported by the R&A.

It is recommended that members over the age of 70 and others with underlying health issues should not visit the club. We would also insist that no visitors or guests are allowed into the club at any time – this includes the golf course.

Our main priority in all of this is the welfare of all of the staff and the members and whilst it is not as extreme as the measures taken by other sporting establishments including golf clubs which have closed completely, the situation will be monitored very closely.

The office will remain open with a skeleton staff but ONLY contactable via telephone or email.

Further updates are planned to be issued following the daily committee meetings.
